Biewer Terriers originated in Hunsruck, Germany in 1984 and were introduced to America in 2003. After raising and showing Yorkshire Terriers for 20 years, Werner & Gertrude Biewer created the first Biewer through the occurrence of a recessive piebald gene in their black and tan Yorkshire Terriers.
How do you pronounce Biewer? Beaver, exactly like our flat tailed, dam building friends.
Biewers have an elegant, long, silky haired hypoallergenic coat that is uniquely colored with a signature tail like a glorious plume. They have a bright intelligent expression and beautiful dark almond shaped eyes. They are a toy group which grow approximately 7-11 inches tall and weigh at approximately 4-8 pounds.
The Biewer Terrier is a dedicated companion dog and loyal family member. Don’t let this small size fool you, in spite of their small stature, the Biewer is a hearty, athletic dog and an excellent hunter of small rodents. They love sporty walks and playtime, yet, are equally comfortable on your lap, making this loving breed a versatile choice. They are lighthearted and like to carry toys around and play. Although quick to alert you to company, they are not constant barkers.
This toy breed is an excellent choice for all people and situations. Since they are hypoallergenic, they do not shed making them perfect companions for those with allergies. They are perfect for small apartments or large homes alike and are good with young children and other dogs. Biewers are Intelligent, devoted, amusing, affectionate, obedient and loyal making them the perfect companion.
Merles are exotic, fascinating and beautiful. Most exotic Merle Yorkie bloodlines come from European descent Merle patterns can be spotted with many different colored eyes and markings. The Merle Gene and Coat Patterns:
The Merle Gene: This is what gives the Merle Yorkie its extraordinary look. A merle gene causes a dilution in the coat color, leading to mottled patches across the dog’s body. It’s important to note that this gene is different from the traditional coloring of Yorkshire Terriers.
Coat Patterns: The coat of a Merle Yorkie features a combination of colors, usually with a base of dark fur broken up by spots and patches of lighter color. This pattern is unique to each dog and makes every Merle Yorkie stand out from the next.
Merle Yorkies have a temperament that’s affectionate and loyal. Their personality is often a mixture of playfulness and a devoted nature, which makes them great for families.
They may be small, but their bold and confident demeanor ensures they’re full of life and love to be the center of attention.
The Standard Black and Tan Yorkshire Terrier, originating from Yorkshire England and weighing approximately five to seven pounds. They have small snouts, pointed ears, beautiful dark almond shaped eyes and long, soft, silky coats.
The are very devoted and known to be protective of their families. This toy breed has a loyal, loving temperament and loves to play! They make excellent companion animals and are great with children. Yorkshire Terriers are consiered hypoallergenic making them a great choice for people with pet allergies. Yorkies are affectionate and love to be snuggled, however they are equally comfortable on your lap as they are going for a sporty walk!
With their strong, solid temperament Yorkies are being used more and more for emotional support and therapy and we congratulate one of our own beautiful pups who has gone on to become a registered emotional support dog!
An exotic yorkie covers the range of rare colours that are different from a Traditional black and tan yorkie. These amazing colour variations include the Merle Yorkies, chocolate, black and tri-colours. Some of these exotics may have blue eyes.
Many people ask if they can meet and play with our puppies when they are tiny babies.... As excited as you may be to see and play with the puppies when they are babies and to snuggle the parents, we do not allow handling of the newborn or interacting physically with the parents at this time and these are all the very important reasons why:
Did you know that puppies can catch illnesses and diseases which are carried in on your clothing? Their little immune systems are still building which is why our moms and pups live in a clean, safe environment away from any outside exposure.
Another very important reason is to not cause stress to the mamma dog and her litter by having people visit when she is at a point where she is trying to protect and care for her babies.
We are very happy to schedule your visit after our pups are four or more weeks old to view the puppy you have already chosen or the puppy you may like to adopt as well as see the parents!
At that meeting we can address any questions or concerns you may have and at the same time get to know one another.
The puppy you choose will be given a color coded velcro collar that will identify your baby! We will send weekly pictures and video clips and are happy to continue to address any questions or concerns you may have along the way!
A safe puppy car seat or small safe crate to bring your new baby home. It is a good idea to put a pee pad in the bottom of the crate or car seat just in case.
Puppy pee pads so that you can continue your potty training at home. There are disposable pee pads and nice fabric washable and reusable choices.
Puppy Food! Please ask us what we reccommend! It is very important to continue puppy on quality food with essential nutrients for growth.
A water and food bowl. Make sure you wash them every day to prevent harmful bacteria.
A HARNESS and leash. It is strongly recommended to use a harness over a collar. Smaller breeds like Yorkies have sensitive throats and pulling on a collar can be dangerous for them. Please use a harness for the safety of your new puppy and into thier adulthood!
Crate. It is important for your new puppy to have a safe space to go. A safe crate with very soft cushioning will provide that. Enclosed spaces create a shelter for your dog to rest and relax. Actually, dogs instinctively seek small spaces to create protective shelters for themselves. Crates are useful training tools for puppies, safe havens for senior dogs, and lifesavers for emergencies. If the crate has open sides consider draping a sheet or blanket over the crate to give puppy some privacy. In the daytime leave the crate door open so your puppy feels safe going in and out.
Bed. Make sure you have a soft padded bed of the appropriate size for your puppy to stretch out. Update the size of the bed as your puppy grows and always make sure they have enough room. Remember puppies sleep 15 hours or more a day so if they seem sleepy you can show them to their crate or bed.
Toys. Puppies love to play and it is important for them to be socialised and stimulated. There are teething toys, fuzzy toys, puzzle toys, food dispensing toys, just do your research and make sure they are safe and the correct size for your dog. At around four months old, puppies start to teethe, as their baby teeth are replaced by adult teeth and molars. At this stage, chewing may seem like your puppy’s obsession, and they may chew on anything and everything. As any parent of a teething baby knows, teething is painful, so your puppy will need ways to reduce the discomfort of sore gums.
Teething toys for puppies soothe your puppy’s gums while giving you an opportunity to teach them what they can and can’t chew on. For instance, don’t give your dog toys that resemble taboo items, like a squeaky shoe toy. Size is also an important consideration, as toys made for the small mouths of an 8-to-10-week-old puppy may cause a 6-to-9 month-old to choke. Always read the manufacturer’s guidelines to make sure the toy is appropriate for your dog’s age and size, and that it’s been tested for safety.
Take steps beforehand to "Puppy Proof" your home or area where puppy will spend most of the time with the family. Tuck away power cords, shoes, clothing and anything you may want to have in one piece!
Make sure reachable cabinets and drawers are secured, especially if they contain cleaning products or medication! Be mindful of any houseplants to be hung high and be aware of potential indoor and outdoor plants you must be carefrul puppy does not ingest!
Puppy should have a nice big bed, a crate which should be covered at night with a light sheet or blanket to give a quiet place to sleep and a safe place to be on thier own. Add lots of safe toys, stuffed animals and various chews like bully sticks, pig ears, cow hooves and dog biscuits will keep puppy busy. We will send you home with all the info on safe treats and thier puppy food.
Stairs going up and down should be gated off until puppy can learn to master the stairs.
The outside area where puppy will be spending time must be checked for plants that aren't puppy friendly. Check your yard :(if fenced in) and block off any spaces, holes or gates where puppy can escape, get stuck or any other animals can get in. If you have a pool make sure puppy cannot access the pool area!
What a wonderful day this will be for the new family! Waiting, planning, prepping are all done and now the day is finally here when your new puppy comes home!!
As excited as we may be, it may not be the best day for your new puppy. The separation from the mother, litter mates and surroundings that are familiar since the day they were born are now gone.
The first few days may be a bit stressful on puppy, they may cry, calling out for mamma and littermates...
A calm, loving environment will be very important for the first few days... A quiet place to sleep and a hideout like a crate will be important.
Introducing them to thier New Home:
Show your puppy where thier bed is, thier crate, pee pad and food and water dish. It's a good idea to remain consistent in these placements until the puppy gets used to a routine.
Continue pee pad training
Establish a Routine of waking, feeding, potty, naps playtime, training and bedtime.
Be patient and give it time. Applying the rule of "threes", In three days, your dog is trying to figure out the new home and family, In three weeks they begin to feel at home as you establish a routine, in three months your new dog will feel comfortable and be a happy part of your family!
